Coco devotes himself to social justice, HIV/AIDS prevention, LGBT youth, and culture/arts. He's received recognition both nationally and internationally for his tireless work. He served as Executive Director of the North Shore Alliance of GLBT Youth (NAGLY) for ten years.

Coco travels around the country and the world educating people about LGBTQ+ health and vaccine research and is one of the original members of the Protocol Team that reviewed the study design of the Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine.

In Lynn, Coco currently serves in various groups, boards, and community organizations ranging from culture and the arts to community television to neighborhood organizations like the Lynn Community Association, Inc.(LCA) and the Goldfish Pond Association, Inc. (GPA), where he sits on the Board of Directors.

Outside of Lynn, Coco serves as a member of the Boston Public Schools Health CAB, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBT Youth (for 9 years), and is the Outreach Manager of Fenway Health (for 15 years).

Coco is an elected State Committeeman for the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

Coco is a polyglot (fluent in many languages) and a scholar to an Asian Scholarship Program. He is also an organizer of various events for the Filipino and AAPI communities in Massachusetts.

Originally from the Philippines, Coco migrated to the United States in 1996. He is a son and a grandson of politicians and community workers. Coco and his husband Peter moved to Lynn, Massachusetts 18 years ago and bought their home in the East Lynn area.

Coco has received several local and international awards, which include: Cebu’s Outstanding Youth Leaders; HVTN’s Octavio Valente, Jr. Volunteer Service Award (the award is in honor of Octavio Valente, a community worker from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); the Spirit Award from NAGLY; and the Outstanding Asian-Pacific Community Leader from the Massachusetts API for Health.
